Cat acne or “chin pyoderma” is a fairly common dermatological condition that occurs on the chins of our furry companions.
You may notice small black crusts/blackheads around your cat’s chin/lower jaw. And trust me while it so much fun to pick at this is NOT recommended.
There are a few methods you can practise to help prevent and treat cat acne.
Avoid the use of plastic bowls. There are correlations between plastic bowls and chin acne. Use glass or stainless steel and be sure to disinfect the bowls daily.
Your vet may recommend medicated wipes (similar to acne pads). Often these two steps resolve the issue but in more severe cases your vet may recommend systemic antibiotics and further testing
